Well, here we go then, Judgement Time!

The first round of Bemsee’s season starts at Snetterton 300 this weekend, although the Yamaha Past Masters do not feature in the programme, there will be a few of the club masquerading as 400’s in the EDIAsia 400’s. The TZR250 is eligible for the sub 64hp sub class and six YPM runners are currently entered.

Doug Edmondson will be on the Wave Racing TZR, hoping that the pre-season testing pays off and the hard work the team have put in over the closed season proves effective. Hopefully the weather will be better than his last outing in the Boxing Day Plumb Pudding races, where Doug was the only runner in the top fifteen not on full wets. He scored superb 8th and 9th places none the less and impressed plenty of the paddock with his smooth riding.


Ross Barnes will be out on his Suzuki SV650 in the Minitwins, Ross finished last season looking very strong with some impressive results, especially in the Thundersports GP Minitwins where he was on the podium for both days. Ross is looking to take that form into this weekend and is hunting for top ten finishes against a strong field.

Kev Higerty will be instructing on Friday, combining his Bemsee duties with final running in of ‘507’, affectionally named after its low engine number, a Bob Farnham/Martin Johnson combination that early signs suggest will be a quick motor. Kev will also be scrubbing in tyres and giving Doug valuable feedback on setup and strategy. The Bemsee instructors are a fantastic asset to the club, normally heavily involved with the Superteen/Kawasaki cup youngsters, their services are open to all novices and seasoned campaigners alike looking to drop their lap times and improve their corner lines.

Mungo Prentice and Rob Andrews are missing this one, Mungo still finishing the final preparation on the brace of LC350’s and Rob is up to his armpits in University assignments.

Only Steve Higerty from the Management team is in attendance, he’ll be the one hiding behind big sunglasses and trying not to look too concerned! He’ll also be on spanner duty with Wave and the YPM bikes in general; hopefully it will be an easy weekend mechanically. Paul Norris is in the process of moving house with all the stress and aggravation that entails, so wisely is missing from action. As far as the TZR goes, this is final testing really; there is silverware to be had it’s not the ultimate goal. Although telling Doug that might be difficult, he’s got the bit well and truly between his teeth! We are aiming to swop the motors over on Saturday evening. We discovered a blown head gasket on the Bob Farnham motor after Brands Hatch testing so there is a niggle of doubt over it’s health, the pistons look ok and there is no evidence of any mechanical woes, so it could just age related as the motor is getting near to a top end refresh. Running ‘507’ will give Doug time on an engine he may well have to run more than initially anticipated.
